Every time i feel the need get back into my motivation bag, somehow, some way, Lil Tecca ends up being right there for me. Admittedly, i was late getting around to this album, but i loved his last album (“TEC”) so much that i knew i had to make time for it immediately after i found it. I featured that album on this page before and probably listened to it, at minimum, 300 times through. In the midst of all the “Lil” rappers, Tecca has proved over and over again that he’s here to stay through genuine, raw talentand hit-making power. He is not like other rappers of the like. He truly doesn’t miss — he’s cracked the code on how to perfectly blend melodies and the familiar rap bravado we are accustomed to as fans of the genre.

Lil Tecca and Don Toliver feels like a cheat code. Somehow their song together on this album (“I CAN’T LET GO”) simultaneously feels like it fits the sound of both this album and Don’s latest album, “HARDSTONE PSYCHO”. Their energy blends very well — it’s probably the melodic capabilities in all of them that all but guaranteed the on-track chemistry.

As always, his beat selection is great. “SEPARATE WAYS”, “NEVER LAST”, & “VOGUE” all come to mind immediately here, but you can tell he knows his melodic rap pocket well through production choices for “4U”, “MAMA”, “ALL THE TIME”, & “COLD GIRLS”. Young AF (still only 22 😳) & already FIVE (!!!!) albums deep, Lil Tecca is underrated yet still has the entire rap game in front of him.
